Privacy Policy

Short version: no accounts, no ads, no tracking, no cookies. Here is what the site does.

What we do not use

You do not need an account. We show no ads. We do not use analytics or tracking tools, and the site does not set cookies.

Your location

If you choose “Use my exact location” (on the home page or the weather page), your browser asks for permission. If you allow it, your device works out the nearest city or area itself. We do not send your coordinates to our server. To show weather, the site sends only a city name or a camera or pass name.

The location you pick or search for is saved in your browser (local storage, key urc-location) so the site can show your area next time. It stays on your device. It has no automatic expiry. Clearing your browser data deletes it.

If you have not chosen a place, the site may ask our host for a rough area guessed from your IP address, to show nearby cameras. We do not store it.

Server logs

Our hosting provider keeps ordinary access logs, such as your IP address, the page you asked for and the time.

Third-party content

Your browser loads some content directly from other organizations, so they can see your IP address:

• Caltrans: live video, when you press play.
• OpenFreeMap: map tiles.
• Iowa Environmental Mesonet and the National Weather Service: radar images.
• NOAA: satellite cloud images.

Still camera images and weather data are fetched by our server, so you do not connect to those agencies for them.
